Missing square puzzle

The puzzle IS----"How can this BE!" There are 4 pieces of this puzzle that fully fill the triangle when done as shown in one picture. How can it be---that if you rearrange them as in the second picture---there is left a blank square as shown by the white area with the dot in it. The square area of the large outline triangle---and of the pieces in it---remain the same. How can you scramble up the pieces---and have them fill LESS area? Drag the puzzle pieces---above---to the triangle to see.
